Best BJJ Gyms in Rome: What Reddit Says

Rome’s BJJ scene is small but opinionated. We pulled every r/bjj mention of Rome gyms and cross-referenced our directory ratings. The dataset is modest - fewer than a dozen gyms with real Reddit signal - so treat this as a community snapshot, not a deep ranking.

One thing every Redditor who’s trained here agrees on: Rome’s public transit is rough. Pick your gym based on where you’re staying or you’ll spend more time commuting than rolling.

Verdict

Note: mention counts for Rilion Gracie, Roger Gracie, and Gracie Barra include several off-topic Reddit quotes that mention Rome in passing. Their real Rome-specific signal is closer to 2-3 mentions each. Treat those totals as upper bounds.

Anacoreta Jiu Jitsu

Every Rome-specific Reddit thread lists Anacoreta first for gi training. The school is built around Luca Anacoreta, who multiple commenters call Italy’s top black belt competitor - one describes him as having been invited to Polaris.

Language: classes run in Italian, but according to Reddit, “most of the times you will be paired with a partner that speaks english and can give you a quick translation.”

Near Termini station, making it one of the easier gyms to reach by public transit. Our directory shows the broadest programming in Rome: kids classes, women’s classes, open mat, gi and no-gi. Reddit places it 4th in one ranked list, behind Anacoreta, Roger Gracie Academy, and Tribe Centro.

The directory tags tell a split story: “friendly_atmosphere, good_instructors, beginner_friendly” alongside “expensive, overcrowded, poor_instructors, unfriendly, lack_of_equipment, disorganized.” Check recent reviews before committing to a membership.
