What Reddit says about Oliver MMA HQ

7 verbatim community mentions from r/bjj and city subreddits, unedited, positives and negatives alike.

Going by the recent Auckland championship results, your options are: - Karim Wrestling - Mt Maunganui Wrestling Club - Dilworth Grizzlies - Club Physical - Core MMA - Counties Hunua There are also MMA/BJJ gyms that run wrestling classes. I know Tukaha BJJ has wrestling classes 3x a week, City Kickboxing and Oliver MMA have 1x. I can DM you and put you in touch with someone who's in the Auckland wrestling community if you like, he could probably tell you more about which club would be best for you. source, 2023 ↗

We’re actually really blessed with good Martial arts gyms in Auckland, world class gyms throughout so you’ll easily find one even if you’re just casual 🙌🏼 For BJJ I’d say go to Sorriso,Tukaha,Atos, DS Team. - You really can’t go wrong in Auckland with BJJ. Striking gyms - The Lee Gar Gyms (There’s a few, new one just opened on Balmoral in Sandringham) , Kings Acadamy , City Kick boxing, Oliver MMA. source, 2021 ↗

Not sure where you are, but in Otago there is an MMA gym open to all. In Auckland there is a well known figure who runs BJJ/MMA who is against all this lockdown/vax shit so maybe an option with Oliver there. source, 2021 ↗

We do no-gi bjj in the summer at Oliver MMA, and wear rashies for MMA classes. Auckland locations in the cbd, new lynn, and browns bay. source, 2020 ↗

There's also DS team in the city https://www.facebook.com/dsteambjj/ (Xande Ribeiro affiliated) Sorriso on the shore http://www.sorrisobjj.co.nz/ Oliver MMA on the shore http://www.olivermma.co.nz/ Auckland BJJ in Epsom http://www.aucklandbjj.com/ Takapuna BJJ on the shore (John Will affiliated club) http://www.bjj.co.nz/takapuna_auckland.html And probably a few others too... there's a lot of choices here source, 2016 ↗

Things like peruvians are high risk as if you dont get the tap you are on the bottom. And bottom in MMA aint a fun place to be. Same reason you dont see many armbars from top position. Subs like slicers are a hard move to set up and often are the result of pure BJJ exchanges, which are deminished in number in MMA unless you have 2 BJJ focised guys fighting (maia v shields for example) They do come up though, most notable slicer would be Charles Olivera's beautiful heel hook into calf slicer vs Chris wisely. He also used a wicked modified d'arce/peruvian to sub Hatsu Hioki here in auckland. source, 2015 ↗

When in doubt go with Gracie Barra. They may not be MMA, but definitely a good start. GRACIE BARRA AUCKLAND 95(B) Woodglen Road Glen Eden, Auckland Tel: 09 818 52 41, Mob: 021 239 2896 Email: [email protected] source, 2013 ↗
