Source and context/explanation (also below) from the BJJ guy can be found on Insta @ Bowerhousegrappling. > After a 23 hour flight to Auckland, New Zealand 🇳🇿, I decided to walk the city. A deranged lunatic charged towards me demanding my money 💰. Not knowing if he had a weapon, I backed away to create space. He started to chase after me. I asked many bystanders, hotel staff, and bus driver to call Police as some man was chasing me trying to rob me. Everyone ignored me. I decided to enter @cafeatbayleys Coffee shop to ask them to call the Police. They were the only people to help 🙏🏻 The man f source, 2024 ↗

There’s a blind jiu jitsu dude in Auckland New Zealand, who is freaking awesome if anyone’s interested. He’s out there owning international competition. I think on Insta he’s the blind grappler. source, 2023 ↗

She’s a savage. Met her through a former flatmate and had her crash on our couch a couple of times when she was staying for BJJ events in Auckland. Built like a brick shithouse. Hope she’s successful in her professional v career. Nice person. source, 2023 ↗

Check out daredevil BJJ near Auckland. The brown belt who owns the gym has had limited vision since he was a kid. He should give you some inspiration. source, 2022 ↗

To be fair, in Auckland, you can walk into city kickboxing and the UFC fighters are all really involved. Israel Adesanya, Kai Kara France, Dan Hooker, Brad Riddell and others all join the beginner BJJ classes etc to help out. source, 2021 ↗

I been an Izzy fan since his big Glory fights. I’m a kiwi based in Auckland, always known who he was, and tbh I’ve been doubting. He’s been rolling with the top guys out of my BJJ club, Izzy is for real, this just the start source, 2019 ↗

* Google "Auckland BJJ" * Ring up any near you and ask if you can try it for a lesson or two to see what it's all about * Try a few to find one that 'feels' the best * Commit to doing it for 6 months * Get a basic routine from /r/fitness and hit the gym three or four times a week * Get stronk and dangerish, and see whether you actually enjoy getting hit or put in an armbar. source, 2018 ↗

Things like peruvians are high risk as if you dont get the tap you are on the bottom. And bottom in MMA aint a fun place to be. Same reason you dont see many armbars from top position. Subs like slicers are a hard move to set up and often are the result of pure BJJ exchanges, which are deminished in number in MMA unless you have 2 BJJ focised guys fighting (maia v shields for example) They do come up though, most notable slicer would be Charles Olivera's beautiful heel hook into calf slicer vs Chris wisely. He also used a wicked modified d'arce/peruvian to sub Hatsu Hioki here in auckland. source, 2015 ↗
