Awesome stuff! If this helps, Washington, DC is missing several gyms: - Estilo Bjj. Three true open mats. Friday 6pm-8pm and 12-2pm on Saturday and Sunday. -Vortex BJJ has a true open mat on Saturday, from 1-230pm. -Highstyle BJJ has 2 opens mats. Friday at 630 and Saturday at 9am. (Unsure if it's a true open mat). -Capital mma DC has an open mat from 10-12 on Saturday. (Unsure if it's a true open mat). Some gyms to mention are RIGHT outside of DC (in Maryland): - Capital MMA and elite fitness takoma park MD. Has a true open mat Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (the o source, 2025 ↗

Nah, there is a small Yamasaki school in DC proper . If I recall they don’t have a dedicated spot and rent mat space at a gym . BETA is the place to go, but I’m biased because I train there . I have no idea about required vaccinations , there or anywhere else. As a parent, I would LOVE that but I’m not going to get my hopes up. Going to be a tough sell with bjj lunatic fringe ( of which there are many in every gym —let’s be honest) PM me for any other questions about BETA or otherwise. source, 2021 ↗

Pedro Sauer gym! I second going on affiliate night. Its usually an hour of technique followed by a huge open mat. All the local affiliate gyms from the area come, some from over 3-4 hours away. One of the best gyms I have traveled to. source, 2016 ↗

Before I came out here to the land of sand, I trained for a year at Ryan Hall's [Fifty/50](http://5050bjj.com/). Amazing gym, amazing people. They just moved the gym to Falls Church - haven't been to the new one but it is supposed to have 4x the mat space of the old Arlington location and showers, so I can't imagine that it is anything but better than it was before. The folks who run Fifty/50 are just phenomenal people. source, 2013 ↗

Not to be a Brazilian jiu-jitsu fanboy, but stop by Yamasaki Academy at 2639 Connecticut Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC (closest school to Adams Morgan). It's physical chess combined with a great deal of fun and you get what you put into it. Not everybody is shooting to be a world champion and not everybody is a once a week hobbyist. There's quite a spectrum of people involved in it too. Every single BJJ place I have ever stopped by or rolled at has had a great atmosphere generated by fun, smart and competitive people. Way better than my karate experiences. source, 2011 ↗
