I'm talking about *these* Olympics where USA Judo can field a stacked roster and they can decide on that roster anyway they see fit. It could only happen for the Olympics in Los Angeles. Otherwise you are correct and there is no way a BJJer could make it to the Olympics in Judo. There are a few divisions in the US where potentially a few BJJ guys could possibly do well, but the odds are stacked against them already. source, 2024 ↗

My response to the question is based upon my own personal experience in Judo since 1965. I don’t give advice. Kodokan Judo in the United States is stalled. There are administrative hurdles that are directly impacting students. The number of dojos has decreased since COVID. The marketing of BJJ has reduced the number of new judo students. The Tokyo Olympics was a wake-up for American Judo. No medals. The NGB is scrambling to improve that record in 2028 in Los Angeles. Too soon to tell. I have not seen people flocking to American dojo following World or Olympic medalists coming home. I have t source, 2023 ↗

To be fair to my knowledge wrestling isn’t that big in Canada. Hell, I’m in Los Angeles and wrestling isn’t that huge on the western region either compared to down south and the Midwest especially. If you can find wrestling then go for it, but you would have a better chance of finding a Judo club most likely. Judo + Boxing was and still is the poor man’s MMA tool kit because both are Olympic sports that are funded by most governments (I’d assume Canada is on that list) which in turn means that they’ll be cheap to learn.
