What Reddit says about Garage Jiu Jitsu CBD

7 verbatim community mentions from r/bjj and city subreddits, unedited, positives and negatives alike.

Sydney West Martial Arts, Grappling Education and Sydney Wrestling Academy are some of the higher level gyms in Sydney. Ive heard of some of the other ones mentioned below, movement martial arts, garage jiu jitsu, Mybjj, and Legacy. That pretty much covers the main competing gyms, there are other good guys who compete from other spots but they are usually outliers in their gym. source, 2023 ↗

I've heard good things about Garage Jiu Jitsu. source, 2023 ↗

Here’s some of my favourites to visit in different cities: Melbourne: Absolute MMA (St Kilda & CBD), Immersion Ringwood, Mustang Sports Centre Sydney: myBJJ Westside (Lidcombe), Gracie Jiu Jitsu Sydney, (Sydney Wrestling Academy is on my list for next time) Queensland: Full Metal Jiu Jitsu, Base Gracie Jiu Jitsu Outside of that if you’re going through Perth you’d be crazy to not visit William Dias’ gym, he recently got silver at AJP beating Tommy Langaker (controversially), but regardless has an impressive resume. And if you’re driving between Melbourne and Sydney then feel free to st source, 2022 ↗

When I spoke to the clinic doctor on the phone, she asked if I had smoked and I told her that I used to smoke but haven’t in over a year (which is true). She asked if I had any bad reactions to it, if it made me feel sick etc… I just said the truth. I felt great on it 😆 she had a little laugh with me. Also went through why I want to try MC, what medications I have tried for my depression, anxiety and insomnia… and if there was any MC product in particular I wanted to try first. She asked if I wanted to try a CBD only oil, I asked if I could try an oil with THC in it, because smoking the THC source, 2021 ↗

Open sparring is right by townhall station and seems to good for beginners and experienced. I was going to train there before i started working at home 80% of the time. There is a place called Garage Jiu Jitsu which I hear is good, but I've never visited. Roots is not too far away, but i've heard mixed reviews. I think there are a number of places in Bondi. Just email the club, most places do a free pass. I know Open Sparring does. Just tell them you are a complete beginner and they will take care of you source, 2021 ↗

Where do you live/work? The best gym is the one that has a reasonable balance of the kind of training and culture you want as well as being accessible. I train at Higher Jiu Jitsu which is on that list and for an average person wanting to get in shape and learn in a friendly environment I’d says it’s ideal. It’s not a big completion gym though A few hundred meters away you’ve got open sparring which is more comp focused and a few hundred meters further you’ve got Garage who are another friendly gym. source, 2020 ↗

I would recommend Higher Jiu Jitsu in the CBD. They were formally Pedro Sauer, now Gracie Jiu Jitsu so the element of self defense that you are looking for is there. Excellent fundamental instruction. John the head instructor is a beast. I stopped by there in December while I was visiting Sydney and was not disappointed. First class was free. source, 2018 ↗
