I noticed when I was traveling in Portugal that the scene was still pretty sleepy there, especially outside of Lisbon and Porto. Since surfing, beaches, and BJJ seem to go together, I'd look around the south coast of Portugal, all the way up, see where the surfers need to train. Learning Portuguese is going to be hard, but at least you have a head start speaking Brazilian. source, 2020 ↗

Prices in Europe tend to be lower for this, that’s also approximately what MMA places charge near me; that said they tend not to have Judo, it’s mostly MT/KB/BJJ and MMA classes. Perhaps in Northern Europe it’s different though. That said I pay ~40€ for 5x a week (I only do 4 of those) Judo in Lisbon . PS: an article with some prices and examples, US-centric https://themmaguru.com/mma-bjj-gym-cost/ ; it’s from 75 to >200 USD considering the examples. source, 2019 ↗

Blue belt. Do you think it’s fair to have a college wrestler compete against someone ethat has maybe a total of 3 mo TJs training in ANY grappling sport? As in they have only trained BJJ? Wait. You entered a BJJ competition and lost by decision on the first round? (just so you know I'm not spilling nonsense, I'm a blue belt for Gracie Barra under Alex Machado in Lisbon, compete a lot and also fight MMA). In BJJ competitions, first of all, there are NO ROUNDS. You have 5 or 7 minute fights, usually. Some competitions have 10 or 11 min fights, depend on belt rank. Also, you CAN'T lose by decision. You either lose by tapping out, or you lose by points. (edit: points are awarded for takedowns, passing guard, sweeps and dominant positions like mount, back mount or knee on belly. source, 2014 ↗
