I retired from teaching here in 2019. I’m born and raised in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn. I used to drive upstate and ski alone. I was used to the solitude from having served in the Marines. Additionally, nobody skied at my level. I used to scuba dive the waters around NYC. We actually have tropical fish that come here in warm weather. I was a wreck diver until I got married and gave it up. I’ve run into sharks, seals, etc. it’s pretty cool. That sounds about normal for Miami. I have lived in quite a few places and visited a bunch. Was paying $110 for Jiu Jitsu only in El Paso, $140/month at ATT in Orlando for everything and now $160/month at a small gym in St Pete for kickboxing and BJJ. Drop in fees have ranged from $20/week in small town NC to $50/class outside of the Bay Area (I didn’t go) to free for military in Kentucky. source, 2025 ↗
