Key words: Not busted. I think people don't appreciate what a difference top level sports is. I know I don't. But here's my taste of it: My first kickboxing gym was a MMA gym. In it, we had a UFC title card fighter (who didn't train in the public classes), and a few undercard fighters. The fighter who taught most of my classes was really good. Like, really good. When I first started sparring, I had to fight him, first. Washington DC is a bitch for a lot of reasons lol That being said they literally do it by class number. I could take 2 MT and 2 BJJ if I wanted or 1 and 1 on the lower plan. Ryan Halls place isn’t that far and i think still across the street of an orange line stop. I dropped in a few times and really liked it. He gave me a free 30 mins private after the class. Basically just getting to ask questions and him showing me small details. It was a cool spot. source, 2021 ↗

I'm sticking with folks who were international caliber for the most part: So I was absurdly lucky in that I walked into an elite judo dojo from the first day, and had a lot of high-level exposure more or less from the first day. All of my ranks in judo are under Jimmy Pedro and his father. The Pedros gave me my judo. I've joked when explaining my judo that I am a defective clone of my coach, with the added bonus of a guard pull. I trained with all of the Olympians they had come through between 2004 and 2016. Hey - we have BJJ folks at my gym and it has a solid reputation online. I’m interested in joining. I think they’re structured so that they don’t tell you the price until your free intro class. Two questions 1) how are these types of intro classes assuming I am fat, out of shape, and inflexible 2) what is a (ball park) “good” price that I know I’m not overpaying.
