Key words: Not busted. I think people don't appreciate what a difference top level sports is. I know I don't. But here's my taste of it: My first kickboxing gym was a MMA gym. In it, we had a UFC title card fighter (who didn't train in the public classes), and a few undercard fighters. The fighter who taught most of my classes was really good. Like, really good. When I first started sparring, I had to fight him, first. Just so he could make sure I could control my body, wasn't going to flip out if I got hit in the face, etc. I want you to keep two things in mind: 1. All told, I've trai source, 2023 ↗

Washington DC is a bitch for a lot of reasons lol That being said they literally do it by class number. I could take 2 MT and 2 BJJ if I wanted or 1 and 1 on the lower plan. But the "unlimited class" plan is $300. I do the $250 because I pretty consistently do 3 classes a week and the occasional 4. source, 2022 ↗

Ryan Halls place isn’t that far and i think still across the street of an orange line stop. I dropped in a few times and really liked it. He gave me a free 30 mins private after the class. Basically just getting to ask questions and him showing me small details. It was a cool spot. source, 2021 ↗

199/month for unlimited classes. I live in an expensive suburb of Washington DC (for reference my 1br apartment is 1600/month and that’s on the cheap side for where I live) Edit: between bjj and kickboxing there are 19 hours of adult classes/week which would work out to $2.61 per class hour. source, 2019 ↗

I'm a Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I had been watching MMA for a long time (I'd guess since the late 1990s/early 2000s) and my cousin invited me to a gym he had been attending. I loved the atmosphere and I became great friends with everyone there. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was and still is my favorite style to watch, so that's the style I chose to practice. After a few years of training I advanced through the rankings. However, a mixture of moving back-and-forth between Washington DC and Tennessee, attempting to find a suitable occupation, and pursuing a Master's degree in Evolutionary Biolo source, 2015 ↗
