They basically just replace one addiction with another. I knew a guy that was a heavy drinker who started BJJ. At one point he got so drunk he fell down at a water park and got a concussion while black out drunk. Little by little he got more and more addicted to BJJ, to the point he was going 7 days a week, even while injured. He *will* have permanent damage from what he is doing, but he doesn't care. My uncle was also like this. He lived in Las Vegas and was the top salesmen in the city for selling office equipment like printers. He was filthy rich. If you can, take visits to bjj hotbeds like austin, San Diego, Las Vegas and visit the top comp gyms and build relationships. See if a coach will take you as student and if you can move there or take visits to get ranked, train with top competitors, and improve your skills. source, 2023 ↗

If I was a fighter in the market for a team, I’d have a few ideas… Tiger Muay Thai, because they’ve produced several champs and the location is awesome. Location does matter. American Top Team in Coconut Creek. They know how to produce champions and the MMA scene in South Florida is high. Tristar in Montreal. They’ve produced GSP and they have a connection with Renzo Gracie in NYC, so you can go back and forth to a very high level BJJ training center. Onyx in Colorado with Trevor Wittman. If you only want to train nogi and don't care learning gi, 10p is okay. They have some amazing grapplers on their team, but consistency from gym to gym is lacking. Off the top of my head, 10p HQ LA, San Diego/Oceanside, Las Vegas, Bethlehem, and Austin are some of the well known schools. 10th Planet [insert random city here], who knows. Any large association school is likely to run into this issue. I personally utilize some 10th Planet concepts in my game, rubber guard, meathook, truck, lockdown, honeyhole. I really enjoy CJJ. The main reason is realistic positioning. I don’t mind guard pulling or anything.. but the majority of BJJ action happens in the precise in-between space that doesn’t work whatsoever or ever happen in a fight. And that’s all I really wanna see.. realistic grappling. I think the slaps will become less and less important over time and will get to a point where it really is just open things up. Also, that werdum/Ryan matchup was low key gonna be HUGELY informative on the state of current BJJ effectiveness. Seeing how Ryan deals with werdum on top with strikes was gonna be fas source, 2019 ↗
