I don’t live in Auckland but I regularly go up and train at some of the gyms there and have mates at a lot of gyms. Auckland is absolutely spoilt for choice with great gyms so it’s more trying to figure out if you want to do gi or no gi and deciding if certain gyms have the culture that suits you. The main ones I’ve trained at are -Soriso is an insane gi gym, some amazing high guys and girls out of there. -Tukaha is the largest and therefore has the most black belts, this probably won’t matter to you as you will be in the beginner classes but the size of there gyms is awesome and gives source, 2023 ↗

I’ve done a few over the years. I ended up at TuKaha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Friendliest club/sport I’ve ever been a part of. Hard work, but incredibly fun. Super effective martial art. Tu Kaha has lots of affiliates around Auckland. There’ll definitely be something in your area. source, 2022 ↗

Tukaha BJJ, based in Auckland. Lots of good gyms in the area as well - Douglas Santos, Auckland MMA, City BJJ, Southern Tribes. Definitely worth checking out if you get a chance. source, 2017 ↗

Why not try both. Tukaha and City BJJ both have exceptional trainers and bucket loads of talent. I've been training at City BJJ (aka City Kickboxing) for as long as I can remember and its without a doubt the best deal you're gonna get. Not to mention you'll be training with some of NZ's best kickboxers, MMA fighters and BJJ practitioners. source, 2016 ↗
