What Reddit says about BJJ Europe

7 verbatim community mentions from r/bjj and city subreddits, unedited, positives and negatives alike.

Munich MMA seems to be the most competitive - I like the setting of Hutton Academy, also BJJ Dachau or BJJ Europe. As far as I see it they all have some mixed classes (meaning they're speaking English as well) All of them are great school and offer free trial classes source, 2025 ↗

I train in Munich and there are a couple of days with late night classes (9pm) in this gym, [https://bjjgym.com/DE/Munich?gymId=b1490040](https://bjjgym.com/DE/Munich?gymId=b1490040) Also for early classes you can take a look here, [https://bjjgym.com/gym/BJJ-Europe-2434a0b5](https://bjjgym.com/gym/BJJ-Europe-2434a0b5) source, 2025 ↗

Hey all, we have a group for LGBTQ+ people who do BJJ. Anyone who fall into that category feel free to send me a dm. We have over 700 members including over 25 black belts. We do meetups/choke camps. We are doing one at the end of the month in Southern California. If you are lgbtq+ & want to attend send me a message. Any gyms that would like to host us give me a shout. Especially any gyms in Europe… I’ll be there this winter and would love to do something there. At least some open mats. I’ll be in Paris/London/Madrid/Munich & Milan. Can travel elsewhere as well. source, 2021 ↗

Europe is very diverse. For central and Western Europe the overall level is not as high as the USA but also really not at a level where we are waiting for a blue belt to come over and open an academy. Also the situation of gym types is quite different. There are a lot of community clubs organized by volunteers. They only offer training 2x a week and share a mat space in a public building with badminton, yoga, tai chi and basketball. But they are practically free, the membership costs 30-100€ a year. Even commercial gyms are a lot cheaper than in the USA, so it's a lot harder to make a living source, 2021 ↗

Before you leave Germany, stop by Munich MMA, it's been almost 4 years since we last rolled XD. In Europe, I'd say either Wulfing Academy with Tommy and Espen in Norway, or Checkmat Poznan with Adam Wardzinski in Poland and if you enjoy warmth, Focus BJJ HQ in Portugal with Pedro Paquito Ramalho. source, 2021 ↗

I came across Rodolfo Vieira the first time in 2011 or so, fought at the Europeans when he was there in 2012 and got to witness his battle with Xande Ribeiro, one of our head coaches, at the Worlds the very same year. Couple of years later I attended a seminar he gave here in Munich and even got to roll with him at the end of the lesson. I was super-impressed with his technical skills, his kind and humble demeanour, his powerful yet supersmooth JJ - and the fact that he has HUGE feet! Rodolfo was and is one of the most memorable persons of my JJ journey. And I still root for him every time source, 2020 ↗

I just got back from a European holiday in Germany. I stopped by the Hutton BJJ Academy in Munich and rolled with the blokes down there. It's amazing how rolling with the Germans was no different to rolling with the Australians. source, 2014 ↗
