Funny thing is, go to Virginia or San Diego. Go to a Bjj place or something frequented by the active military guys. None of them act that way. Not a one. team guy? Don’t matter, sweetest fucking people on the planet. I go to worlds and master worlds and I am around top notch fighters all the time. Only time any of us ever see that shit, it’s usually a “bro” who wishes they were us. source, 2025 ↗

I think you should visit a couple of places. If you can throw a rock in San Diego, you’ll hit a BJJ gym. I’ve trained at a few of the following and have heard great things about the others: -North Coast JiuJitsu -Victory MMA -Legion -Alliance -The Arena -10th Planet San Diego source, 2025 ↗

You got this! Never too old. If you’re in the San Diego area, one of the instructors at Poway BJJ is blind and is a pretty cool dude. source, 2025 ↗

10th planet San Diego is close to Serra Mesa and has excellent Nogi Jiu Jitsu, judo/wrestling and has a cool, friendly and supporting atmosphere. I’ve trained in Florida and California gyms for over 15 years and SD 10th planet is as good as it gets. source, 2025 ↗

Military woman here. I live in the Austin area and there is so much BJJ here. VOW and 10th planet might be worth a look, both have a high female population and 10P does free for military classes 3 times a week (usually small tho). Atos HQ in San Diego has a ton of high level female competitors. source, 2025 ↗

There is literally a hundred places to train BJJ in San Diego. I train at the training center in PB. I’d also recommend Legion AJJ, atos, the arena, and 10th planet source, 2024 ↗

I think its odd that some bjj schools don't want you to cross train, I think it shows how insecure they are, my brother trains at a 10th planet school in San Diego and they encourage cross training, Eddie Bravo encourages cross training. Unless the schools instructor did something personally messed up to your current coach I don't see the problem. But if you're a coach at your current school I would probably tell your head coach if he's cool with it and don't sneakingly do it behind his back. If he really wants you to get better at bjj and as a coach, he should have no problem. source, 2024 ↗

For sure, I forgot to add 10th Planet on my list! One stop shop for everything. Saw on their IG page they had a member appreciation thing in October, thought that was pretty cool. It’s also not too far from me but heard the parking can be bad though? source, 2022 ↗
