What Reddit says about Level Up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Woodland Hills

8 verbatim community mentions from r/bjj and city subreddits, unedited, positives and negatives alike.

1. Calling one BJJ affiliation " culty" vs all the other ones is an exercise in the pot calling the kettle black. We are all in a cult by certain definitions. Ever rolled at 10th planet? or Dougs Duggart's BJJ in Highpoint NC/s? yeah the spectrum of cultiness in our sport/martial art is wide. 2. Not an MLM, I am starting to think you are baiting here, but no. GB is not an MLM scheme. That statement alone makes me doubt if you even understand what a multi level marketing scheme actually is. 3. Gracie Barra with all its faults is the largest affiliation of BJJ gyms in the world with over 1,000 s source, 2025 ↗

>I enjoy working out at different gyms/studios (barre, pilates, jiu jitsu, really all kinds of classes), healthy restaurants, farmers markets, going on walks, volunteering, and concerts. I work in healthcare but it's not a very high paying position. I love rain/cold/cloudy weather but really enjoy anything under 100 degrees. Your requirements can be met by any decent-sized metro outside of the sunbelt. Honestly, I'd just see where you can find the best job and base it on that. Boston, Cleveland, Rochester Minnesota, Baltimore, and Los Angeles are all known for their hospitals. I'd probab source, 2024 ↗

1.3 million people at a rate of 10% trying MA, is 130,000 in/out of martial arts places. 10% of them sticking with it for a little while is 13,000. For the avg smaller gym you figure what? Around 100 students? But you're dealing with a lot of overlap and other issues. But 100 students = 130 locations. Bigger cities more likely to have individual places with more student capacity etc. The next deal is other martial arts and various levels of replacement. At one point you saw karate dojo everywhere and no one heard of mma or bjj. Now that's changing and many places that teach things add bjj. source, 2022 ↗

I’ve heard some Navy Seal podcast guy say that to really get optimal performance out of cops, you would need to train them like high-speed military people. They have training cycles and deployment cycles. So optimally, cops would train for three months, every day. Tactics, BJJ, shooting, deescalation, role-playing, law, all that shit. Then they’d work the street for three months. Then back to training and so on. This is essentially impossible given staffing levels, cost of training, cost of ammunition, risk of injury, and a million other reasons. People expect cops to shoot like Navy Se source, 2022 ↗

To quote Joe Rogan when he is talking about black belt BJJ grapplers in the UFC, 'There is levels to this game'. You have a pretty serious hobby there, but your not doing it super frequently. That is comparable to having a Black Belt in Judo or BJJ, but not being able to beat the guys who regularly win regional tournaments. The kind of hike you describe is Serious fun. But for you that is a once a year thing. So you go on Serious Hikes on a semi casual basis. Even at a once a year basis, you do it regularly and I am guessing you plan your vacation time around it. And that you have spent source, 2022 ↗

I go to PKG in Westwood and can't say enough good things about it. We have 4 black belt instructors (head instructor is Tahi Burns, former instructor from Beverly Hills Jiu-Jitsu), smaller classes, and some of the coolest training partners i've ever met. I believe they give you 30 days free. http://punchkickgrapple.com/# source, 2012 ↗
