> I’ve got ADHD, so traditional learning in Jiu-Jitsu was rough. I’d zone out while coach is talking and forget sequences almost immediately. Reps bored me, and aside from learning basic mechanics, I never drilled. But during live rolls, my brain locked in. It forced me to focus in a way nothing else did. It turns out the same ADHD that made drilling impossible also helped me pick up patterns quickly and react instinctively. That pattern recognition became the foundation of my game. Hey, interested. I'm 38 in new York (no idea what time zone it is). I work overnights so my schedule is wacky, so I think it works pretty well. I do Jiu Jitsu but need to be more consistent with lifting, cardio, and eating better. Can do logs, weekly emails, just some thoughts. Goal is to lose like 10kg source, 2024 ↗

This might not be popular on this forum but former NYC Jew to current NYC Jew: get a gun, learn how to use it, carry it concealed. New York changed CCW laws recently and as a trans person, you have a very good argument to need one for safety. Next/at the same time, enroll in jiu jitsu. In the long run, probably move. It’s hard to say where, but your safety is paramount. You can mitigate risk by having a CCW and knowing jiu jitsu, but your environment isn’t going to change. source, 2024 ↗
