Japanese Jiu Jitsu is pretty useless in a fight. It's a lot of standing locks (which don't work in reality) and poor hand strikes. Rarely a lot of proper sparring - in fact, a Jan De Jong student once told me sparring isn't realistic enough because the opponent doesn't really want to hurt you, so they stick to just punching bags! Japanese Jiu Jitsu has a lot of chokes and locks and holds that don't work standing up, but they don't know that because they never test whether the techniques actually work.
