Hey bro Will give you my experience Same injury end of November last year. I slowly went backwards until April when I ended up in hospital with a major flare up. Couldn’t work (tree worker) couldn’t ride my bike, train bjj, at my lowest point I was on the sofa full of codeine. The recovery time is definitely disproportionate to other injuries and is full of setbacks. I avoided surgery thankfully. Things that have helped me - Walking 10,000 steps a day. Sometimes more sometimes less. This flosses the nerve gently and allows gentle movement in your lower back - Daily exercises. These vari source, 2024 ↗

I was before I joined, and still am now, part of the hardcore punk musical subculture. Moving to Townsville now for six years has completely taken that away from me, the one thing my life has pretty much been structured around from the age of 15 to 29 (when I joined) as there is no scene here. All my friends are in Newcastle, Sydney, Bris/GC or Melbourne but ironically more of them live in the UK or the US due to the nature of the subculture. Good thing I’m moving back to the UK when I get out, plus I’m in the US at least twice a year. I have zero civilian friends in Townsville apart from peop source, 2023 ↗

I don’t believe that class structure is unique to John. Lachlan ran a very similar format when I was training in Melbourne and it works great there, even for the hobbiests. In Sydney I use a similar format in my classes at Grappling Education and SJJA and you see the same at Sydney West Martial Arts where I train. I strongly believe that, for the most part, warmups for Jiu Jitsu is just a way for a coach to waste a good chunk of time. source, 2023 ↗

This is the page out of the South Sydney dossier designed to try and eradicate wrestling and grappling out of rugby league which will get all of the NRL talking. Submitted to the NRL at the end of last year, the Bunnies spent $20,000 compiling the 21-page report and its recommendations aimed at beefing-up suspensions for any player who makes dangerous contact with the head and neck region of an opponent. The Bunnies have been at pains to point out the dossier is not specifically designed as a Melbourne Storm “bash-up” and have included examples of all clubs wrestling over the course of last source, 2020 ↗

I thought you might like this to be added to this thread. It's from an interview Whittaker gave to the Aussie Telegraph about his struggles with depression. It's behind a paywall so there isn't a lot of point in posting the article link, so here is a copy paste for you guys. Robert Whittaker remembers hiding away for days, even weeks inside his own home. First time, he was 16. A young housing commission kid so down life, on the world, he just stopped going out into it. Instead, drawing the curtains and doing little but sleep. For days. Not answering the door when mates knocked. Not an source, 2019 ↗

Depends a bit on where you live and what you want. When you're starting out any gym will be fine. As you get better there might be a teaching style or group of people you prefer and at that point you can move gyms if you want. Absolute MMA St Kilda is likely the most famous gym in Melbourne. Absolute has a good introduction program that will get you started with jiu jitsu before you start doing the bigger classes. Immersion has a good competition team and great instruction. Put a few more details into your post and you'll get better responses. source, 2019 ↗

In 2007 I was a blue belt doing a study abroad in Rio De Janeiro. I was training at Ricardo Viera's and Lachan Giles was a brown belt who was spending a few weeks training there. I hit it off with one of the Australian blue belts who pointed to him and said "That's one of the top BJJ guys in Australia right now". BJJ is a small world... source, 2017 ↗

Yeah i will definatelly have her try at some point but she is just 3,5 years old, and there isn't even a kids class in my gym. There is another gym 20 minutes drive further away that has a kids class but then i would have to change, and i really like my current gym and instructor. source, 2016 ↗
