There was a Brazilian brown belt on the competition scene in Sydney for a while whose go to attack was an aggressive guard jump. But he'd try and knock you over with it, slamming him would have been almost impossible. He had a good set of follow ups depending on the opponent's reaction and won a lot of matches. A friend of mine got a broken neck, 6 months off work and 3 years out of jiu jitsu when his competition opponent tied to slam his way out of an armbar. Most competitors are weekend warriors with wives and kids. The slam rule should protect them, so I strongly believe it belongs. If it' source, 2024 ↗
