Legion13 is a really good BJJ gym that also offers some striking classes. There's a ton of bjj places closer to the CBD though. If you're south of the river Scrappy MMA and Wilkes MMA are close to each other and also have decent bjj classes. I think this is a great idea. Imagine this situation. You don't know shit about BJJ and you watch CJI for the first time on YouTube for free. Then you get a suggested video for this free content and want to check it out.Then your like "I can do this shit" and join a gym. Next you try to ankle lock on someone at the open mat at the end of class and everyone hates you, then round after round it's only north south. Tldr: it's a great ad for YouTube. source, 2025 ↗

Isn't Combat Arts Institute in Mt Hawthorne? That's has has JJJ and BJJ I think. It's just north of Inglewood/Mt Lawley. Of course, I suspect you know about Jan De Jong in town. I've heard there's a couple of good ones in Morely, including KickAss MMA. Gladiator wrestling (just up the road in Beechboro) is a fantastic gym for wrestling. I'm meant to be doing a drop in at Rio gym with a few mates (Ossy Park); there's a bunch up that way too. JI (Judo international) is is in Karrinyup if you want something between jjj and bjj. If you can travel north a bit, come see us at Northside Jiu-Jitsu in Ellenbrook tomorrow night (Monday) from 6-7:30pm for open mat (not that far when you consider Tonkin is finished - Maybe 15 minutes from Morley tops) or go see George @ Guardians Gym in East Perth. Being a part of the Legion 13 affiliate group means you've got instructors and gyms all over Perth that'll help you out. I train at Legion 13 Perth Hills normally, but I know the owner of Northside well and have trained at Guardians (and know some of the students) enough times to recommend them. KMPerth.com.au Train Krav Maga in North Perth and Hamersley, and are a Krav Maga Global (KMG) club I havent attended classes for ages (due to an injury) but the instructors are good, and the attendees are a good bunch of people. The North Perth classes are on a foam floored gym, so there is more ground work done there than the carpeted hall in Hamersley. A word of warning - the last 5-10 mins of class are a “determination/agression drill” that will push you to work through the exhaustion and keep fighting - they are a heck of a lot of fun but hard work unless you are very fit, maybe wait t source, 2020 ↗

Not a problem man, I actually forgot to bring a pen so couldnt write anything on my arm! What weight division were you in? I didn't do the best in my weight division, got north south choked in under a minute. Then in open weight I kept escaping guillotines but then got caught in a solid anaconda. I'm South of the River Perth (we kind of split Perth into 'North' of the River and 'South' for some reason), so I don't know too many gyms around that area. Our gym has a pretty good relationship with the Goioere Gym though, we actually organised a friendly intra club competition with them last year which was really fun. (Our club is The Arena Drysdale, we wear the black tshirts at comps, Goioere wears the red and blue ones) Seems like a good club, they're just as loud as us at comps.
