If you’re just starting out, I’d suggest looking for a school that specializes solely in grappling or jiu jitsu. These schools often offer a wider range of class times, exposure to different grappling styles, more experienced teammates, and the option to train in both gi and no-gi formats—giving you the chance to explore what suits you best. Depends on your target audience. You won't get a lot of kids signed up to a gym with killer in the name. Which might be exactly what you want, even though it will be a lot harder to pay the bills. If you are only teaching BJJ, I'd stick with calling it Grappling or Jiu Jitsu over Combat. That sounds much more MMA to me. I wouldn't use your last name, unless it's Gracie. The standard is just the town or area with the art or style. It lets people know what they are getting. You can still have a cool mascot or symbol to personalize it, or a cooler name for your competition team or something source, 2025 ↗

Hey! I live in the area and have dropped in basically everywhere lol. Gonna dox myself at this rate but oh well 😅 here's the rundown: 1) Gracie Barra: I started here. Georgetown/Cedar Park/Round Rock locations are under 1 leadership team, North Austin/Hutton locations are under a different team. Georgetown location is my primary. Smaller classes, female purple belt coach, quite a few female students although I haven't seen a few of them lately. You'll catch more of them in the evenings. North Austin location has a great ladies group, some blue belts, but you'll still probably only catch 1 or source, 2024 ↗

Also note that it’s not a Gracie Barra in disguise it’s Gracie AZ and chill. I bet Sol BJJ is open if you check their website and instagram. They are awesome and Austin Baker is great! Don’t forget there are two 10th planets. Phx (located in Mesa) and Scottsdale. Jay Pages BJJ will undoubtedly have some. Assuming you're going to UT Austin, their club is pretty awesome. I think they have classes 6 times a week with excellent instructors. Classes are pretty big and it's super cheap for what you're offered. Renzos, the VOW, and the new Eastside Parlor are all pretty close to campus. Renzo's is the most famous but most expensive and since it's the home of New Wave, you'll get the celeb type training. The instruction is excellent but it's gonna be full of high level people visiting. As a new white belt it really doesn't matter where you train as you're going to suck.
