For context… because some of these comments are vicious 🤣 -I started out the round check-marking every green I hit before I started keep track of GIR at the bottom of the card. -Played the blue tees at a very easy course here in Austin Tx, literally no rough. -Got a little off track with my “total putt count” at the bottom of the card. (Sue me) -I played D2 college golf previously and now train jiu jitsu way more than I golf. I get to golf 3x a week and don’t take it too seriously that’s this round was so surprising. -Follow my golf youtube video “RingerAndTheDinger” :) source, 2025 ↗

Hey, there. I'm a black belt in a few styles. To be fair, any martial art will help with confidence. If we are talking purely for women's self-defense, I'd go with BJJ. My reasoning is size and circumstance. If she gets attacked it will more than likely be by a larger male with bad intentions (SA). She's unlikely to punch her way out of that. Weight classes exist for a reason. She will end up on her back with a guy trying to get in between her legs. Guess what BJJ is really good at? Defending against bigger people trying to get in between your legs while you are on your back. I knew an extreme source, 2025 ↗

You've trained with women as well I assume? If so, surely you've noticed the difference in capabilities? I've been training for around two years on and off, and in my first month I was able to lock down an armbar by just brute force against our instructor. In randori mind you. She's an awesome lady, with a brown belt in Judo and black in BJJ, who's way, way, beyond me in terms of technique and knowledge. But biology is biology man. A woman has to work significantly harder to reach the same physical level as a dude. Now, if you have a guy who looks like the fat bastard from Austin Powers, sure. source, 2024 ↗

Went to a Eddie bravo seminar in Austin 10p in 2021 , only had been training for 8 months so rubber guard or Bjj in general was all new for me I just want to learn. Eddie was such a dick to me, I asked him about a certain detail that I forgot that he showed us and got pissed off said “can you not comprehend what I’m saying?” In such a dick way. I wasn’t really a fan of Eddie bravo just wanted to learn rubber guard and now I’m really not a fan of him. He talked for like 20-30 minutes than taught us for like 45 minutes and then talked again for 30 minutes/promotion. Worst seminar I’ve gone to, p source, 2024 ↗

I’d pick a hobby and make friends that way. I’ve met a ton of wonderful people through jiu jitsu and figure drawing classes! Austin has both a vibrant jiu jitsu scene and figure drawing scene. In my experience, the people who go out and take classes are generally very open to socializing and making friends. It’s a lot of fun and a great way to meet people while easily having a shared interest to bring you together source, 2024 ↗

Not sure what you mean by “old school” mentality at AOJ or “gentle Jiu-Jitsu.” To answer your question, since you do No Gi…look at the places or areas that create top tier No Gi competitors. San Diego and Austin (for the US). Either way, you’d be surprised by how many people jump around schools or pop up at open mats, etc. As a random blue belt, you’re probably okay to do whatever floats your boat until someone says otherwise. source, 2024 ↗

I don't think many Jiu Jitsu techniques have been picked up for regular use in wrestling - just on occasion is all I mean. I posted the other day, a small clip of Austin DeSanto, hitting a Kimura (for example) after a crazy cartwheel entry into stocks/crucifix. I think the flow of info between Jiu Jutsu and wrestling is quite assymetric. Lot's of wrestling coming into BJJ.. less so the other way around. But more wrestlers are dabbling in BJJ now - which is awesome for the Jiu Jitsu landscape. Actually - it would be a good question to ask Amit Elor - as she is dating Jiu Jitsu champ - Mica Gal source, 2024 ↗

My family and I would drive from San Diego to Gonzales Texas 3 times a year for cattle work. That's over 1200 miles each way, for one trip. For work I used to drive 45 miles each way from my home to the prison I worked at. So about an hour long drive after a 12-16 hour shift. Now my drive for work is more like 15 miles each way. If I want to go do anything outside of the small town I live in its 40 is miles to the nearest boxing/judo/jiu-jitsu gym, 60 miles or more to the nearest major city. If I want to got watch a movie that's 48 miles away, for classes my fire department will have us dri source, 2024 ↗
