This guy came into their gym and started shit during class, what are you on about? source, 2026 ↗

I don’t live in Auckland but I regularly go up and train at some of the gyms there and have mates at a lot of gyms. Auckland is absolutely spoilt for choice with great gyms so it’s more trying to figure out if you want to do gi or no gi and deciding if certain gyms have the culture that suits you. The main ones I’ve trained at are -Soriso is an insane gi gym, some amazing high guys and girls out of there. -Tukaha is the largest and therefore has the most black belts, this probably won’t matter to you as you will be in the beginner classes but the size of there gyms is awesome and gives source, 2023 ↗

I've done Krav Maga in Auckland. It used to be called Combat Krav Maga but they came under new ownership and changed their name to Krav Fighter. There's also good Wing Chun classes, as well as Jiujitsu and BJJ classes you can Google and find easily. What kind of martial art are you interested in? One for practical self defence? Fitness? Simple interest in the art? Competition? source, 2022 ↗

Sure! For Karate I would recommend any of the JKS/JKA clubs across Auckland. They practice a fairly traditional Shotokan style. Then for Jiu Jitsu I would recommend Syzygy if you’re on the Shore, Sorriso if you’re Central, and Daredevil if you’re out west. All of these clubs are friendly and approachable for beginners with no commitment trial classes. Have fun! source, 2022 ↗

To be fair, in Auckland, you can walk into city kickboxing and the UFC fighters are all really involved. Israel Adesanya, Kai Kara France, Dan Hooker, Brad Riddell and others all join the beginner BJJ classes etc to help out. source, 2021 ↗

I do both, never had issues. If you want to do both classes and time permits, I don't see why you can't? source, 2020 ↗

Yo, I train out of City BJJ at the moment. We're run out of City Kickboxing, but the gym has a real emphasis on mixed martial arts (but not necessarily MMA). We've got a pretty small team, but have some great instructors who take different classes each day of the week (so you get different looks at different styles). Classes are on every day, and run for about two hours, with a combination of speed drills, conditioning, technical drilling and rolling. We roll every session, and do a marathon roll on Friday nights. Open mats every day, and a more public open mat on Saturdays when other clubs source, 2016 ↗

If ever you find yourself in Auckland in the North Island, roll through to DS Team BJJ in Newton which is 5 minutes from the central city. Recently we've had Clark Gracie fly in to do a seminar, and we've just become a Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu affiliate. Xande is actually in the country right now and just held an amazing seminar last night, he'll be at classes all week too. We're mostly a Gi oriented school, however No Gi classes are on Monday nights, and feel free to roll No Gi at Open Mats which are on Friday evenings, Saturday Noon or Sunday evenings.
