Yep. I know a sus dude who LOVES BJJ. He is married with a kid, but is as camp as Christmas in Paris. He used to insist that I “roll” with him. I always politely declined. Until one day I caved, and we hit the mats. Man, I felt so conflicted as he manhandled me and got all excited. As he pinned me down, with my face to the floor, I wasn’t sure if I was feeling the knot of his belt in my back, or his savage erection. All I could do is take it, and not resist. I think Judo would be a great model. Black belt means you can demonstrate a wide array of technique and have a good practical basis to execute it against resisting opponents. Black belt does not mean that you can walk into Paris St. Germain and throw people. As a purple belt the r/bjj expectation for me is that if an ATOS blue belt competitor walks into my gym I should be chain subbing them, which is ridiculous, because I’m a 37 year old purple belt with 2 kids who trains like 3 times per week. source, 2023 ↗

I'll be 100% honest. I suck at bjj. That's it. I love bjj and practice every day as well as help with kids class but when it comes to actual competition I'm very mediocre. I also went up a category (this is - 64kg I weight 57kg). Paris told me he could feel the weight difference and I didn't even tell him about it xD but that's not really an excuse. Once he got the omoplata I just went into survival mode and tunneled making me basically a uke. I don't take it as a critic since I also told myself that I could've done maybe a bit more.
