I train at Brooklyn BJJ — Cobble Hill. I'm a Purple Belt under Josh Skyer (2nd degree black belt under Brian Glick and Gene Dunn). I can only speak good things about Skyer and Glick and the two branches where I've trained (the other one being in Myrtle Av). Other places I've trained where I can stand and test the legitimacy of my purple belt: Warriors Nation MMA in Dumbo, Highstyle Jiujitsu (Washington DC), Gracie Barra (Monterrey, Mexico), and DiamondHeart in Bushwick. Sure. Both of those guys got their BB before GB started its "Jiu Jitsu for everyone" campaign. GB is literally the McDonalds of jiu jitsu. * Everyone kind of likes McDonalds; everyone can train and get a little something out of every GB affiliate. * McDonalds prides itself on having extreme standardization. Every single hot n spicy mcchicken tastes the same whether you are in Washington DC, Miami or Fresno. Gracie Barra has a set curriculum that every lower belt follows at nearly every GB school. Instructors have set curriculums. Most other schools don't follow this and give extreme auto source, 2019 ↗

Hello there! I've had the honor of having trained with just about everyone in town that comes from the "old school" beginnings of BJJ and Judo here in town. In terms of BJJ in town, just about everyone can trace their start to Rickson Gracie. There are five homegrown black belts in the area, Greg James, Scott Thompson, Ed Shobe, Scott Morton, and lastly Dana Taylor. Scott teaches out of Woodbine, Iowa (probably too far to drive).
