Weird post for me to comment on but you caught me mid shit before 6am class. My home gym is one of the biggest MMA gyms on the west coast, in Las Vegas, and is historically know to be the place you go if you want to develop a wrestling heavy, smash style fight game. I have been dealing with super athletic high school and college wrestlers since I started. For the first four years of training I rolled with someone like this at least once or twice a week. I originally started bjj around 1999 as well. I had the advantage of having a great instructor who was a purple belt. He explained his own struggles of having to train by getting the Gracie VHS tapes and constantly traveling to seminars or flying out to California a couple times a year (we're in the middle of nowhere-midwest) to get a few weeks of training in at a time. Now that I've started back up he's a multi-striped black belt and it's crazy to see how large bjj has gotten since then and how much more technique exists... anyway, thanks for the story!
