Yea, thanks, I read his “explanation “ since clearly everyone was like wtf. Seems like dumbass just didn’t have a gi or a belt so they let him use a loaner and didn’t have a brown belt, just grab whatever belt off the rack. Of course he has to lie on JRE and then back down later lol > On the most recent Fight Companion podcast, I mentioned that I wore a white belt at the Gracie Academy for a few weeks when I first arrived, even though I was already a brown belt in BJJ. My miscommunication on the issue caused some people, including Joe Rogan and Bryan Callen, to think I was demoted by my in source, 2023 ↗

Anywhere near Mt. Vernon? If so, Pedigo Submission Fighting. They are a sister school/affiliate of Rodrigo Vaghi BJJ. Rodrigo has many sister/affiliate schools around STL, Mt. Vernon, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Los Angeles. All are run by black belts who got promoted directly from Rodrigo. Rodrigo grew up with, trained with, and is one of Rickson Gracie's best friends. source, 2022 ↗

Tsunami is a really friendly place to train. Not really competition-oriented, though some people do well in local/regional comps. No contract and no uniform requirements. Los Angeles Jiu Jitsu is new and is taught by Kron Gracie black belt. Meraki is a bit away in Santa Monica. They used to have Kenny Florian teaching classes but he left for some reason. Werdum is a little farther away in Venice. There is also Rey Diogo and Delta BJJ if you're interested in training with some OGs. Renzo Gracie has an affiliate somewhere in the area. There's also the Gracie Academy, which is pretty over source, 2022 ↗

Tsunami BJJ is great for drop ins, but the schedule is a bit limited. I've met some nice guys at Verdum but have never trained there myself. There's also a Kron Gracie black belt teaching at Los Angeles Jiu Jitsu academy. I've heard good things about Meraki even though Kenny Florian isn't there any more. source, 2022 ↗

That’s how the Machado owned gyms and Gracie Academy gyms run warmups too. In fact, they are generally friendly with Eddie Bravo. Idk where the whole 10PJJ vs BJJ rivalry outside Los Angeles started. In the city they are all usually chill when I trained with ‘em. source, 2022 ↗

My favorite story of this era is how after founding Shooto. Satoru Sayama saw the first UFC event and went "Damn, I got do this myself". He organized the Vale Tudo Open Japan tournament in 1994, he tried to get Royce Gracie but instead got something even better: his older brother Rickson, the so-called "Champion" of the Gracie family. Royce won trhough the UFC with his jiu-jitsu grappling skills. Rickson didn't even need them, he could just throw you into the ground and ground-and-pound the fuck out of you, he smashed through the Vale Tudo Japan '94 and became a big figure in the combat sport source, 2022 ↗
