What Reddit says about Focus Jiu Jitsu

7 verbatim community mentions from r/bjj and city subreddits, unedited, positives and negatives alike.

Dominance in Collingwood is great, mix of gi and nogi, absolute in Collingwood is also great but much more nogi focused and has a chunk of mma fighters in the class. Both are a walk from the Collingwood train station Melbourne budo Academy also offers bjj as well as judo which is *rad* fun. Bjj is run by two purple belts and I think it's cheaper than the other two gyms. Greg and Costa are both nice dudes. Best of luck. source, 2025 ↗

I’m 44, also in Perth. Moved back here from Melbourne in 2014. Been in a relationship for 4yrs, was in a 2yr relationship prior to that. Was single for a few years prior to that. My first few years back in Perth I was dating regularly. I wasn’t really looking for a relationship, but was open to it with the right person. I was focused on building a robust life. I’m in good shape. Gym, BJJ, active lifestyle, like to socialise but in social environments. Busy shit holes full of noise and dipshits is out. I’m a personal development and leadership/communications Coach. When I was single I really source, 2024 ↗

I took 3 years off after training for around 18 months. Honestly lost motivation and I was too caught up with seeing others getting better than me (in my mind at least) and focusing on stripes and belts. Also had twins around this time and during my 3 years off Covid hit and being in Melbourne Australia and having some of the harshest lockdowns in the world took BJJ completely off the table. I had no intention in going back although I never got rid of my Gi and belt. Around 6 months ago out of the blue I decided I wanted to take it up again. Went back to the same gym who were very welcoming source, 2023 ↗

Hey mate. I lived in Melbourne for years, and trained at Peter de Beens in St Kilda. Very nice family atmosphere, great jiu jitsu, and a very beginner friendly program. They offer a good balance between No Gi and Gi. No real self defense / Gracie stuff. I started there because I was living in St Kilda and it was very convenient. I stuck around long enough to get my purple belt (4 years ago!) before I moved to the US for work. For the best of the best No-Gi competition focus, go train at Absolute MMA St Kilda. A slightly different type of seminar post. Rather than attending I was able to teach. Honestly a really fun experience. I tried using my experiences from seminars to give them the best one possible, lots of focus foundational stuff that they can implement immediately without much effort but just requires consistency and only a focus on 2 moves over 3 hrs, but really getting the details correct and putting out concepts that they can use for a long time. Overall the students were amazing to teach, everyone put in a really solid effort and were keen to learn and the gym owner (Michael from Fortit source, 2022 ↗

The final episode on the role of S&C in grappling with experts Tom Crick ben King and myself is out! In this chapter, we focus on the role of Strength and Conditioning in Jiu-Jitsu and how it differs for recreational versus competitive grapplers. In Part 6, we look at the main lifting sessions I performed prior to the 2019 ADCC European Trials. My program included three lifting sessions per week from January to March 2019 with the goals for each month changing as I got closer to competition. The panel includes: Livia Giles (née Gluchowska) is an Australian grappler an source, 2020 ↗
