If you’re just starting out, I’d suggest looking for a school that specializes solely in grappling or jiu jitsu. These schools often offer a wider range of class times, exposure to different grappling styles, more experienced teammates, and the option to train in both gi and no-gi formats—giving you the chance to explore what suits you best. Depends what you’re looking for more, vacation to an exotic country or jiu jitsu training. You could go to Austin which has B team (Craig Jones et al) , New Wave (Danaher), and other good schools, Fight Factory I think is where the Tacketts train? Or San Diego which is Andre Galvao’s Atos headquarters, or Costa Mesa near LA for Art of Jiu Jitsu (Mendes bros). If you want mostly a cool vacation plus BJJ I would probably go Thailand or Bali. source, 2025 ↗

Renzo’s isn’t the most expensive, the cheapest membership at Fight Factory was over $200 per month where Renzo’s offers multiple tiers. I know they have a student membership that’s $175 a month. The highest tier membership is the “New Wave” one but I have no idea what it includes as I always thought it was invite only. Regardless, both are great gyms. capital factory is fun and the nexus for startups in austin. Lots of interesting hype. Take a look at brazilian jiu jitsu. It is incredibly complex and much more fun than climbing. There can be a bit of a drug culture at some gyms, but mostly not. source, 2024 ↗
