I recently visited the main Evolve gym in Singapore, holy shit - the bathrooms were insane. I'm talking what seemed like 20 odd individual, tiled, private shower spaces with tons of room, really high quality body soap and shampoo dispensers, and just everything in the changing room was like a 5 star hotel.. 15 years doing BJJ and I've never seen anything like it. I'm used to a bench and maybe a water fountain if I'm lucky. Super impressive. source, 2023 ↗

Bangkok, Thailand 2005 Visited one of the highest ranked BJJ guys in South East Asia - Adam Kayoom of Bangkok Fight Club. He was a Eurasian who was a Ricardo Liborio (American Top Team) brown belt (which was as bad ass as you can get given the notoriety of the ATT at that time in MMA and BJJ), a decorated Muay Thai fighter (he was fighting the top ranked Muay Thai guys in Thailand at that time, and a MMA fighter (he was a champ in Australian back then). In 05, I think Singapore didn't have any brown belts yet and neither didn't Thailand; there weren't any native black belts yet in South East source, 2023 ↗

That's probably about right, before that, striking sports like muay thai had a much longer history in Singapore before ONE, evolve and mma became more popular in Singapore. I trained muay thai in school about 15 years ago and never heard of BJJ back then source, 2022 ↗

I think its tough. There are a number of gyms in Singapore with Evolve being the strongest and most powerful. I have seen Evolve open up academy locations just to take out competitors in the area. Opened up next to FAMA and also opened up a gym right by a former Evolve instructor just to break them. source, 2022 ↗

If you want to eat a piece of humble pie and experience what the hardest core human beings do try a Mixed Martial Arts vacation with boxing, muay thai, wrestling, and BJJ world champions in Singapore. It's super expensive because you're paying for the time of elite champions. Well, first off, where do you live? Most of these gyms offer a trial class, and it really doesn't matter how cheap it is if you hate it there, or if it's two hours away from where you live/work. Fight G has a rather well known instructor (Shane Suzuki) who is probably one of the best competitors in SEA. Their rates also happen to be the lowest, but they train in a really small space (part of the mat is cut off by the boxing ring), with the air conditioning frequently off (don't know if that thing is really working properly), but [it is also the cheapest program, by far, at only $115 per month source, 2014 ↗
