Has anyone trained in Los Angeles? My gf signed me up for a month of classes at Cobrinha BJJ. Once it’s done, I’d like to know whether or not I should tryout other recommendations. That is only if I didn’t not enjoy my experience there. Much appreciated, thank you! source, 2023 ↗

When I was living in Los Angeles, it had to be Torrance & Huntington Beach where I’ve seen the most fighters coming from, a lot of former UFC guys seem to settle in those areas, no doubt because of the melting pot of nationalities residing in that area. Living in Colorado until recently, fighters from anywhere north of I-25 seemed to spend some time in Albuquerque. Never been to Florida personally but it’s obvious a lot of fighters are gravitating there. Iowa back in the day, Nevada obviously, San Diego has strong BJJ culture, Northern California has Alpha Male, Diaz Army, and AKA. Persona source, 2023 ↗

For context this is the exact wording of the profile “I like exploring Los Angeles, jiu jitsu, cycling, golfing, breweries, the beach, traveling, and basically anything that gets me out of the house. Be able to take a roasting and don’t take life too seriously 😬 6’0 “ source, 2023 ↗

I’m in LA proper but I have a few friends who train in South Bay. A couple of them train at Golden State BJJ in Torrance. Dane is a Shawn Williams black belt and a great instructor. I’ve visited a couple of times and it’s a very welcoming environment. I have another friend who trains at Cobrinha Redondo Beach and she has nothing but great things to say about her school. I’m sure there are a lot of other options, those are just the two I know of from friends who have had good experiences. I think the Gracie HQ is in South Bay somewhere too but don’t really know much about what it’s like t source, 2022 ↗

Los Angeles Jiu Jitsu Academy (jiujitsu.la) in Culver City is solid. Taught by Kron’s former head instructor Ricardo. Revolution martial arts is decent. The Coop bjj (thecoopbjj.com) is cool too, but similar open mat style with little instruction so it doesn’t sound like what you’re looking for. I think Cobrinha has an affiliate in redondo that I’ve heard good things about. Never heard of blackhouse. source, 2022 ↗
