What Reddit says about City Lee Gar - Philip Lam

8 verbatim community mentions from r/bjj and city subreddits, unedited, positives and negatives alike.

You must not live in a very big city. Homeless folks are walking wild cards in the most unhinged way possible. Some are just coming down from a bender and mostly harmless. Others are violently manic and will whip out a shiv or switch blade in the blink of an eye. Is 3 people overkill? When a potential weapon + crazy person is involved, I wouldnโ€™t say so. Iโ€™d just call that being smart. source, 2026 โ†—

Source and context/explanation (also below) from the BJJ guy can be found on Insta @ Bowerhousegrappling. > After a 23 hour flight to Auckland, New Zealand ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ, I decided to walk the city. A deranged lunatic charged towards me demanding my money ๐Ÿ’ฐ. Not knowing if he had a weapon, I backed away to create space. He started to chase after me. I asked many bystanders, hotel staff, and bus driver to call Police as some man was chasing me trying to rob me. Everyone ignored me. I decided to enter @cafeatbayleys Coffee shop to ask them to call the Police. They were the only people to help ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป The man f source, 2024 โ†—

To be fair, in Auckland, you can walk into city kickboxing and the UFC fighters are all really involved. Israel Adesanya, Kai Kara France, Dan Hooker, Brad Riddell and others all join the beginner BJJ classes etc to help out. source, 2021 โ†—

I haven't had experience with Dos Santos Ribeiro. But have been to a few open mats at City Kickboxing Atos and they're legit. Quite a few high level MMA fighters train there (Israel Adesanya, Dan Hooker etc..) You could also check out my club Tu Kaha BJJ. The main gym is also located central. source, 2019 โ†—

Yo, I train out of City BJJ at the moment. We're run out of City Kickboxing, but the gym has a real emphasis on mixed martial arts (but not necessarily MMA). We've got a pretty small team, but have some great instructors who take different classes each day of the week (so you get different looks at different styles). Classes are on every day, and run for about two hours, with a combination of speed drills, conditioning, technical drilling and rolling. We roll every session, and do a marathon roll on Friday nights. Open mats every day, and a more public open mat on Saturdays when other clubs source, 2016 โ†—
