What Reddit says about Cia Paulista Australia BJJ - Headquarters

8 verbatim community mentions from r/bjj and city subreddits, unedited, positives and negatives alike.

I believe you should come to the major cities, either Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. I’m in the Northern Beaches of Sydney and there are so many expatriates children who are living the dream. They pick up English very quickly and there is so much to do extra curricular eg BJJ Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is great for confidence and making friends. Plenty of girls doing BJJ and loving the inter-action. It’s expensive in Australia as you’re aware however I don’t think you’ll regret it. source, 2025 ↗

I grew up on the central coast of California, did 0 wrestling even though we had a good wrestling team. Chuck Liddell was a bouncer at the bars downtown and my friends would try tell me who he was and I had no clue. WEC was taking place all around me and I had no clue. It wasn’t until a decade later when I moved to Melbourne Australia when I started watching UFC that I came across Jiu Jitsu. I was watching it with a friend and I remember the fight ending and I was saying “what even happened”. My friend told me that it was Jiu Jitsu. That’s where my journey started! I got addicted after my 1st source, 2023 ↗

I personally have not trained in Zendokai Karate (ZDK), but I have seen your typical ZDK practitioners. My sensei was actually within that generation to see ZDK start from its humble beginnings. Everything I say in this comment is anecdotal, either from what I've seen or is a regurgitation of mostly casual post-training deep and meaningful chats I've had with my sensei over the years. Whether or not it is true, take what you will with a grain of salt. ZDK was started by a Bob Jones back in the 70s(?) in Melbourne Australia. Before Bob Jones started ZDK, he was training under a Tino Cerebr source, 2023 ↗

From his Wikipedia page: Moody was arrested by the Australian Federal Police on February 22, 2014, in Sydney, charged with drunkenly assaulting a female flight attendant on his Qantas flight from Brisbane. The police were called to Moody's hotel room on a report of domestic abuse towards Holly Smith, Moody's partner of 17 years. According to the police report, Moody strangled Smith with a jiu-jitsu hold and said, "I’m going to fuckin source, 2022 ↗

The final episode on the role of S&C in grappling with experts Tom Crick ben King and myself is out! In this chapter, we focus on the role of Strength and Conditioning in Jiu-Jitsu and how it differs for recreational versus competitive grapplers. In Part 6, we look at the main lifting sessions I performed prior to the 2019 ADCC European Trials. My program included three lifting sessions per week from January to March 2019 with the goals for each month changing as I got closer to competition. The panel includes: Livia Giles (née Gluchowska) is an Australian grappler an source, 2020 ↗

In case there's a paywall- Robert Whittaker remembers hiding away for days, even weeks inside his own home. First time, he was 16. A young housing commission kid so down life, on the world, he just stopped going out into it. Instead, drawing the curtains and doing little but sleep. For days. Not answering the door when mates knocked. Not answering his phone when mates called. “Just tucked myself away,” says Australia’s most dangerous man, “and hid”. Which made no sense, to anyone. Understanding even at 16, Whittaker already boasted both the capability, and cajones, required for first source, 2019 ↗

In 2007 I was a blue belt doing a study abroad in Rio De Janeiro. I was training at Ricardo Viera's and Lachan Giles was a brown belt who was spending a few weeks training there. I hit it off with one of the Australian blue belts who pointed to him and said "That's one of the top BJJ guys in Australia right now". BJJ is a small world... source, 2017 ↗
