What Reddit says about Choke BJJ Copenhagen
8 verbatim community mentions from r/bjj and city subreddits, unedited, positives and negatives alike.
In Copenhagen, it costs around $30-50 a month for unlimited BJJ (gi and no gi), and you also get free access to wrestling, MMA, Muay Thai and a fitness gym (+ free CrossFit and yoga classes). source, 2023 ↗

Okay 28 year old anesthetist Marine vet here. I work as a healthcare provider and know lots of guys like the character you’re looking for. Some things I notice. Lots of dudes in our shoes practice bjj. Most still lift weights. Some have put on a couple pounds but aren’t fat. A lot chew Zyn pouches as a replacement for getting addicted to Copenhagen while we were in. A lot of us are recovering alcoholics at this age. Alcohol was a big part of our lives from 18-22 and through college. Not that cool when you start getting hangovers you can’t recover from. Most are early risers. Terms to use: (squ source, 2022 ↗

Not a question, but more a PSA/tip for anyone who has dodgy knees: try out Copenhagen planks, unilateral bridges with a large knee angle and unilateral calf raises. I've got a background in power- & weightlifting and thought my S&C training was ok. I had a slight ACL tear a few years ago in sparring, took time off (covid) and kept on lifting as much as it allowed. But when I restarted bjj this year it still felt off a bit in sideways movements (even things like sideways shuffle/run in warmup) so went to a sport physio. Got a rehab program to target adductors, calves and hamstrings at source, 2022 ↗

When I started jiu jitsu it was in Graugarts gym in Copenhagen. He is such a chill and nice guy that my impression of the sport was just rolling and laughing and friendly people. I've never followed some of the famous guys in BJJ on social media, so I never knew the cringe until I joined this sub and saw all the complaints about them. With Graugart as head of Globetrotters, I can't imagine it being anything but a good community. source, 2021 ↗

Living in St. Barth; never found a place on earth that makes happier, so can't really complain about that. Teaching Jiu Jitsu was a product for me for 15+ years in Copenhagen and I always had to deliver, no matter how tired or uninspired I was. Here, I am teaching just teaching because I want to, I don't charge anything and there's no pressure to "perform". I enjoy that very much. What to focus on a for a white belt; I would say try to get a grasp of some general concepts rather than single techniques. IMO, it's very much about understanding fundamental, underlying mechanics instead of just a source, 2020 ↗

Gunnie is a true gentleman in a sport often filled with goons. This is a battle between a grappling beloved UFC vet and a highly decorated BJJ champ. It's a nerve racking fight for me but I hope he manages to beat Durinho. Should be a great match up at UFC Copenhagen this weekend with two ADCC vets as well. source, 2019 ↗

What? UFC Copenhagen is one of the most fire fight nights they've put out in a while. The Joker vs Cannonier = Banger Muay Thai Khalil vs Cutelaba = Banger Alex Dalby vs Cowboy Oliveira = Not a lot of name value but both are ready to scrap Submission specialist Gunnar Nelson vs Gilbert Burns = banger for the BJJ fans Throw in Ovince-Saint Preux in there too and you got a really balanced good quality main card source, 2019 ↗

Hey man, The BJJ scene in Denmark is small but growing. A bunch of really high quality competition gyms in Copenhagen, with more of a hobbyist setting in the rest of the country. In Aarhus specifically there's three clubs at the time of writing. * [Choke BJJ](http://www.aarhusfa.dk) - pretty traditional approach to teaching etc. Two black belts, fairly big gi team. * [The Grappling Lab](https://www.grapplinglab.dk/) - very new club run by a brown belt and a bunch of purple belts, with some black belts that occasionally drop in. The atmosphere is less traditional, and there's a three t source, 2018 ↗
