My nephew has trained a long time at Diaz academy. It's a shark tank with tons of tough guys but very chill like any other Jiu jitsu academy. Gi, no gi.... Boxing etc. There's a few Cesar Gracie affiliates and athletes from each will travel to the others to train with new faces. Tons of our guys from Santa Rosa will go to others like El Niño in San Francisco and vice versa. You'll get great training and get to train with some freakish Jiu jitsu dudes. Can't say enough about the level of dudes up here at Cesar Gracie and Ralph Gracie affiliates in Northern California. I remember b source, 2023 ↗

First off, this sounds like a red flag like a Gracie Barra or Gracie combative crap. Bjj in general is more expensive as a lot of instructors try to do this full time and or rent the building instead of renting mat space. Cost will depend on what you're getting and where you're at. I've paid as little as $75 a month for access to 6 classes a week plus open mat, nothing much there but a room with mats. I've seen 125+ a month but with access to more classes, more space and a variety of instructors. This is in a low COL area, go to San Francisco and I am sure that changes a ton. Nakano judo is the closest, in San Jose, but we’d love to have you at San Francisco Judo Institute, which is slightly further. Currently, we practice at 730 Tu-thu at Charles Gracie bjj on California street in SF 🙂 source, 2021 ↗

From what I have seen, Gracie style is the old school self defense variant from the 70’s. I personally think it is really cool and that style does come with a lot of great fundamentals that work well in competition. I trained with Carley Gracie in San Francisco and he would bring in plastic knives every now and then and teach standing arm locks, ankle locks, how to close the distance if someone throws a haymaker, how to grapple someone who bear hugs you from behind or pins you against a wall with a hand choke. All these sort of real world scenarios that you wouldn’t see in competition. On top source, 2020 ↗

There’s a place in San Francisco that sells MANY past issues of Black Belt Magazine, Grappling Magazine, and martial Arts Insider with Gracie Jiu Jitsu on the cover. I picked up a Grappling Magazine issue featuring Jean Jacque Machado and a huge 1999 ADCC review for $3. source, 2019 ↗

It was and is complete bullshit what Ralph did to Flavio. To sucker punch someone is cowardly. I am very curious why Ralph has not gone after Kurt Osiander or Jake Scovel. Since they both open Empire Jiu-Jitsu a mile from Ralph Gracie San Francisco. source, 2018 ↗

"Over the past couple of days, I have heard a number of rumors about my gym in San Francisco and its former instructor, Kurt Osiander, and I feel the need to address this misinformation. First, I did not sell my gym to Gracie Barra. Ralph Gracie San Francisco is my gym and will forever be my gym. Second, I am saddened to say that, after nearly 25 years together, Kurt Osiander has chosen to leave Ralph Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Kurt was not fired nor pushed out. He made the decision to leave our team and start a new gym in the same neighborhood. I was made aware of his decision while I was out of the source, 2018 ↗
