Carlson Gracie Henderson Jiu-Jitsu

It’s hard to find a wrestling club for adults. If you can’t, I’d recommend just asking mma gyms and BJJ gyms how wrestle-heavy they are. I’ve gone to BJJ gyms where they never stand up and BJJ gyms where they always standup(las vegas/ Henderson 10th planet). I go to a more casual gym and compete in BJJ occasionally and a lot of people will start standing. Some former wrestlers too. source, 2024 ↗

If I was a fighter in the market for a team, I’d have a few ideas… Tiger Muay Thai, because they’ve produced several champs and the location is awesome. Location does matter. American Top Team in Coconut Creek. They know how to produce champions and the MMA scene in South Florida is high. Tristar in Montreal. They’ve produced GSP and they have a connection with Renzo Gracie in NYC, so you can go back and forth to a very high level BJJ training center. Onyx in Colorado with Trevor Wittman. Exactly. And the guy is a Renzo Gracie blackbelt, but refused to use it. Last time we saw him really try was against Arlovski in EliteXC (which involved a b.s. stand up from Tan Dan). That said, his IFL fight with Rothwell was awesome. source, 2020 ↗

Oh, really? Roy's a Renzo Gracie BB who won PanAms, qualified for ADCC, and who has a win against Jeff Monson (an absolute monster in no-gi grappling). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZQuLDWPeco It's frustrating that he abandoned his BJJ in favor of his right hand, but you can't say he wasn't a talented grappler. I originally started bjj around 1999 as well. I had the advantage of having a great instructor who was a purple belt. He explained his own struggles of having to train by getting the Gracie VHS tapes and constantly traveling to seminars or flying out to California a couple times a year (we're in the middle of nowhere-midwest) to get a few weeks of training in at a time. Now that I've started back up he's a multi-striped black belt and it's crazy to see how large bjj has gotten since then and how much more technique exists... anyway, thanks for the story!
