I go to my gym and I do not know a single Black Belt that would at some point didn't treat it as the purpose of life. Yeah life is tough and you need money, but if you are a Pro you will not have Full-Time job because it's quite literally impossible given the Tournament Schedules, Rehabilitation and Training. Part time job, sure. Most of Pro Athletes are either part-time coaches or fitness trainers. BJJ is not special in that regard that we need money, any other competitive environment will require money, this is normal.... In all fairness we have to see. Big reason why Khabib and other lads were so successful was Abdulmanap. Great leader, great coach. There aren't many like that, and hopefully Khabib and others will continue his legacy, but it's to say. Sometimes the greatest athletes make for god awful coaches. Russians always had World Class wrestlers and sambo practitioners.... Normally I would say that given what is happening in Russia right now it's not looking good, but MArtial Arts are getting promoted on global scale and we are seeing huge influx of money which allows for better facilities and staff. source, 2024 ↗

We're speaking to the ops original post, well at least I am. Obviously say someone like say Galvao, a Lo, someone of that calibre would be an investment and having them on the mats never mind teaching would bring in massive amounts of new students. What op is suggesting is random bjj athlete gets a visa to come to America as an athlete. Given the tone of ops post it would be relatively safe to assume he's speaking from a smaller or less well off nations perspective. This is what I'm speaking to. I'm 46 and just recently got my black belt. 6 years ago I had a horrible set of surgeries that put me in the ICU for 4 months and out of commission for 4 years during which I couldn't train at all. Last year I got my cornea sliced, my MCL torn, my metatarsal dislocated, and my body aches a lot. Still, I made it a point to push myself harder. I did the super intense R1NG BJJ World Camp and then competed at the regular Gi Worlds at adult and almost beat a 23 year old athletic Brazilian athlete. Then I pushed myself to compete at the Tokyo Open getting double silver, then Master Wor source, 2020 ↗
