I travelled across half of Canada trying the top BJJ gyms from northern Ontario to BC. I didn’t upload or publish my journey. I did it to see where the sport was, where I was. Also to grade my teacher as well. Am I learning or feel comfortable with a one stripe. Follow Japanese Culture festivals, they like to showcase their martial arts and grappling. Find places that don’t have the highest star rating. But have the most reviews, sift through them and see if you would agree with the mindset. Some people have high expectations and voice them publicly without understanding what they wanted t source, 2024 ↗

South Auckland : nothing super interesting apart from drive through to get to the rest of the north island, or some nice bush walks in Hunua. East Auckland: nice beaches on the coast, couple nice bars in Howick township. West Auckland: gateway to west coast beaches, amazing day trips. little creatures brewery in hobsonville is great. Titirangi is a cool cafe trip. Other than that, it's a bit suburban. Central suburbs: coast to coast walk is a good day walk to hit the main maunga walks (one tree hill, mt Eden). Parnell and mt Eden villages are great dining /bars. Newmarket mall is nice as fa source, 2023 ↗

Hey Mate, are you located in Auckland northshore? Come have a train at my Jiu Jitsu gym, I only started around 1.5 years ago and the friends ships I have made young and old is great (large age range) Geting fit, making friends and the getting on the mats are great for mental health. Lots of open mats as-well and opportunities to meet others from other gyms, the community is top notch. Happy to set this up with you and get you involved! source, 2023 ↗

Sure! For Karate I would recommend any of the JKS/JKA clubs across Auckland. They practice a fairly traditional Shotokan style. Then for Jiu Jitsu I would recommend Syzygy if you’re on the Shore, Sorriso if you’re Central, and Daredevil if you’re out west. All of these clubs are friendly and approachable for beginners with no commitment trial classes. Have fun! source, 2022 ↗

If ever you find yourself in Auckland in the North Island, roll through to DS Team BJJ in Newton which is 5 minutes from the central city. Recently we've had Clark Gracie fly in to do a seminar, and we've just become a Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu affiliate. Xande is actually in the country right now and just held an amazing seminar last night, he'll be at classes all week too. We're mostly a Gi oriented school, however No Gi classes are on Monday nights, and feel free to roll No Gi at Open Mats which are on Friday evenings, Saturday Noon or Sunday evenings.
