What Reddit says about 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu Pasadena

8 verbatim community mentions from r/bjj and city subreddits, unedited, positives and negatives alike.

Definitely get to a different gym! Maybe even visit several, do drop ins and pick one you like. I’d think it would be a challenge to be ready for blue if there are no opportunities to practice sparring. This is not that way other gyms are. I recommend checking out Frogtown Jiu Jitsu in Los Angeles if you’re in Pasadena. It’s a lot closer than San dimas. Paul Schreiner is incredible. source, 2025 ↗

1. Calling one BJJ affiliation " culty" vs all the other ones is an exercise in the pot calling the kettle black. We are all in a cult by certain definitions. Ever rolled at 10th planet? or Dougs Duggart's BJJ in Highpoint NC/s? yeah the spectrum of cultiness in our sport/martial art is wide. 2. Not an MLM, I am starting to think you are baiting here, but no. GB is not an MLM scheme. That statement alone makes me doubt if you even understand what a multi level marketing scheme actually is. 3. Gracie Barra with all its faults is the largest affiliation of BJJ gyms in the world with over 1,000 s source, 2025 ↗

What kind of department issues? The cost of living is comparable to here in Los Angeles, but I understand that's a big factor in quality of life. Figured if I went for a career, I could just bum it out through the first 5 ½ years til that pay raise. I work out a few times a week, but health is wealth, so I absolutely will keep it a priority. I was thinking of some bjj classes funny you bring it up, i have friends that go to a 10th planet out here and love it💪🏽 source, 2024 ↗

I live in Los Angeles where there are an insane number of BJJ schools and it seems like a majority of them are charging anywhere from $180 to $220 a month. A Gracie Jiu Jitsu CTC school just recently opened up in Pasadena and according to the website they're charging $200 for 8 classes a month, which I think is too pricey if you can only go twice a week. I wish BJJ wasn't so expensive. No one likes to talk about it, but it's a very costly hobby. source, 2024 ↗

Not San Diego, NYC, or Austin... Well in that case, why not try the original Mecca of BJJ in America- Los Angeles-OC area. You got Checkmat HQ, Gracie Barra HQ, Brazilian Top Team HQ, the original Gracie Academy in Torrance, 10th Planet HQ in Los Angeles, Machado BJJ, the list goes on and on. We are spoiled here in Socal source, 2024 ↗

It sounds like you maybe enjoy structure with some traditional values mixed in? Might I suggest judo? The average judoka will murder the average karateka in a streetfight which addresses your fight concerns. Judo also has very high standards with a very good reputation. One of my judo sense was Yondan or 4th. Dan and had been at the dojo 25 or more years, and top tier guy fightwise. They don't give belts, they're earned. An example is Parker Kenpo- they currently have more 10th. Degree black belts than judo has had in 141 years, since Jigaro Kano created judo in 1882. And 5th. to 9th. are quit source, 2023 ↗

I go to 10th planet west LA. Scott Epstein is the instructor and we have a group that competes frequently. Scott does the first week for free for you to try it out. PM me if you have any questions source, 2012 ↗
