That is amazing. This is how BJJ was when I lived in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. I'm sure it's the same in Los Angeles and New York City. Actually, Los Angeles probably has this many Judo clubs in a short distance of each other. source, 2022 ↗

I am Los Angeles California, and do BJJ Point being I am in a city with a lot of hot women I also am currently in a relationship, and yes I still roll with women, because grappling isn't sexual, I am trying to choke someone until they submit or crush them with weight until they have no energy left so I can pass guard and choke them until they submit or lose consciousness My aim, my endgoal doesn't change because the breast tissue on the person I am rolling with is more supple. I'm still trying to choke someone or rip off an appendage. source, 2022 ↗

I moved to Austin about 16 years ago from Los Angeles. As some other posters have indicated, the jiu jitsu scene was a little behind compared to bigger cities. I was a purple belt then and it was a big deal (it definitely was not when I was in LA). There were only two black belts in the whole city back then. Things had changed quite a bit pre Covid. But once that hit and the New Wave/ B Team move happened, it seems like people are now relocating to Austin specifically for jiu jitsu. That definitely was not the case even a few years ago. I guess the big question will be whether the big names source, 2022 ↗

I’ve heard some Navy Seal podcast guy say that to really get optimal performance out of cops, you would need to train them like high-speed military people. They have training cycles and deployment cycles. So optimally, cops would train for three months, every day. Tactics, BJJ, shooting, deescalation, role-playing, law, all that shit. Then they’d work the street for three months. Then back to training and so on. This is essentially impossible given staffing levels, cost of training, cost of ammunition, risk of injury, and a million other reasons. People expect cops to shoot like Navy Se source, 2022 ↗

I train at a well known academy in Los Angeles (I only mention that to give context), that has produced multiple world champions, UFC Champions, etc. We have many gay & lesbian students & I can honestly say I’ve never seen or heard a single derogatory statement or people refraining from rolling, etc. They are all well liked, well respected, normal students like the rest of us. We’ve all gotten together on numerous occasions outside class for food / drinks, to watch UFC, etc & their S/O’s always joined & it was a complete non-issue. It’s a major city, so I’m sure it may not be l source, 2022 ↗

To quote Joe Rogan when he is talking about black belt BJJ grapplers in the UFC, 'There is levels to this game'. You have a pretty serious hobby there, but your not doing it super frequently. That is comparable to having a Black Belt in Judo or BJJ, but not being able to beat the guys who regularly win regional tournaments. The kind of hike you describe is Serious fun. But for you that is a once a year thing. So you go on Serious Hikes on a semi casual basis. Even at a once a year basis, you do it regularly and I am guessing you plan your vacation time around it. And that you have spent source, 2022 ↗

That’s how the Machado owned gyms and Gracie Academy gyms run warmups too. In fact, they are generally friendly with Eddie Bravo. Idk where the whole 10PJJ vs BJJ rivalry outside Los Angeles started. In the city they are all usually chill when I trained with ‘em. source, 2022 ↗
