Reporting back: I’ve only finished part 1 of the instructional so there are more details to this system that I am missing. So far into my investigation, it feels like a decent calf/shin crush. I’m not sure if I can hit it in a live round let alone against a bigger opponent.  It is so far out of my comfort zone in terms of what I know about ankle locks. In my head, ankle locks have always been like pulling on a rope on both ends to get it taut for the break. Another part of the issue is I don’t know what the pressure is supposed to feel like. I’m not discounting the system yet but it definitel source, 2025 ↗

I think this is a great idea. Imagine this situation. You don't know shit about BJJ and you watch CJI for the first time on YouTube for free. Then you get a suggested video for this free content and want to check it out. Then your like "I can do this shit" and join a gym. Next you try to ankle lock on someone at the open mat at the end of class and everyone hates you, then round after round it's only north south. Tldr: it's a great ad for YouTube. source, 2025 ↗

Honestly, that's the best test bed for cutting-edge Jiu-Jitsu techniques. You can't do it at Waffle House because there's no guarantee your training partner will be unarmed source, 2025 ↗

If you can travel north a bit, come see us at Northside Jiu-Jitsu in Ellenbrook tomorrow night (Monday) from 6-7:30pm for open mat (not that far when you consider Tonkin is finished - Maybe 15 minutes from Morley tops) or go see George @ Guardians Gym in East Perth. Being a part of the Legion 13 affiliate group means you've got instructors and gyms all over Perth that'll help you out. I train at Legion 13 Perth Hills normally, but I know the owner of Northside well and have trained at Guardians (and know some of the students) enough times to recommend them. Japanese Jiu Jitsu is pretty useless in a fight. It's a lot of standing locks (which don't work in reality) and poor hand strikes. Rarely a lot of proper sparring - in fact, a Jan De Jong student once told me sparring isn't realistic enough because the opponent doesn't really want to hurt you, so they stick to just punching bags! Japanese Jiu Jitsu has a lot of chokes and locks and holds that don't work standing up, but they don't know that because they never test whether the techniques actually work. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a groundfighting martial art. Those chokes and locks and holds work source, 2020 ↗

Probably has something to do with space and organisation. Also parking at where they have it (Craigie Leisure Centre) isn't the best since we have to share it, can get a bit squishy. source, 2012 ↗
