Weird post for me to comment on but you caught me mid shit before 6am class. My home gym is one of the biggest MMA gyms on the west coast, in Las Vegas, and is historically know to be the place you go if you want to develop a wrestling heavy, smash style fight game. I have been dealing with super athletic high school and college wrestlers since I started. For the first four years of training I rolled with someone like this at least once or twice a week. I live in Las Vegas. I have friends who are pro MMA fighters and coaches. I occasionally train with them, why? Because they let me and even though I’m in my 40’s, it’s cool as shit and you learn a lot. I am also a blue belt in BJJ, which isn’t super high, but enough to know what I am doing. I’m class, everyone spars with everyone else. Male, female. Whatever. That being said, the females go probably half as hard on me. And they mop the floor with my ass. Las Vegas is the obvious answer. Texas and SoFlo also have good BJJ. Gyms in Texas are more famous but South Florida has a lot of Brazilians so there’s a lot to smaller shops there which are high quality. Weirdly enough, *State College, PA* has great grappling focused gyms mostly because wrestling is huge there and Penn State is nearby. source, 2022 ↗

If I was a fighter in the market for a team, I’d have a few ideas… Tiger Muay Thai, because they’ve produced several champs and the location is awesome. Location does matter. American Top Team in Coconut Creek. They know how to produce champions and the MMA scene in South Florida is high. Tristar in Montreal. They’ve produced GSP and they have a connection with Renzo Gracie in NYC, so you can go back and forth to a very high level BJJ training center. Onyx in Colorado with Trevor Wittman. I mean most of the ebi events were DDS guy, Good 10p guy, and no hopers. If the DDS guy were still doing these events, it would be comparable to a lot of the ebis. The more time has gone by the more high level competitors have soured on the OT and pay format. source, 2019 ↗

The ruleset of normal EBI was something to boost the nogi explosion but it quickly died after it fulfilled launching John Danaher to the mainstream. The reality is, the rules suck. Most high level competitors don't want to compete in it. You can "play not to lose" to ride into OT and auto get someone's back. This is not favorable to people with reputations. Eventually other rulesets have come out and are more attractive to high level competitors.
