Not sure what you mean by “old school” mentality at AOJ or “gentle Jiu-Jitsu.” To answer your question, since you do No Gi…look at the places or areas that create top tier No Gi competitors. San Diego and Austin (for the US). I'm almost there at 4 stripes blue lol. My neck has gotten to where sometimes I get 1 class in a week or so. I can not bolo anyone and if I get stacked or triangled, I'm down for a week.  I had some dude get mad at me because I tapped as soon as his legs went into a triangle. I’ll just keep wearing the blue belt. Thanks. I won winter nationals in LA five years ago as a blue belt, 3 ippons, 3 different moves, five years later, still blue belt lol. I don’t want to take any tests at the moment. I like the jiu jitsu format, just give you the belt when you’ve earned it, generally after two or three years, no performance needed. If a sensei one day wants to promote me great, if not, oh well. I just hate sandbagging that’s all, it’s not fair.
