What Reddit says about Revolution Martial Arts & Jiu Jitsu

4 verbatim community mentions from r/bjj and city subreddits, unedited, positives and negatives alike.

Things I've heard about each gym: Gerson's can be packed to the point of rolling being difficult. Street sports can be a tough place to train. Revolution has a mix of older hobbyists and young competitors. Lima is very much a hobbyist gym but has had issues with instructor and student retention. Ocean grown is small but legit and has a greater focus on self defense, but not in a weird culty Gracie combatives way. There's also Legacy West Adams, the coop, Los Angeles Jiu Jitsu Academy (Kron Gracie lineage), uprise MMA, Rey Diogo (old school rough training), and a lot more if expand yo source, 2024 ↗

I would definitely check out Revolution, Lima BJJ, and PSF Los Angeles. There are a ton of other gyms as well...check out as many as you can. edit: I've heard Meraki has gone downhill since Kenny Florian left, and street sports is a rough place to train. But again...try as many places as you can. source, 2023 ↗

The instructor has changed, now it's Lima Taekwondo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. The bjj classes are still just bjj classes and the instructors are all legit. I've heard street sports is pretty rough training (probably not good for a beginner) and the culture at meraki has gone downhill since Kenny Florian left. I would also check out Los Angeles Jiu Jitsu Academy (run by a Kron Gracie black belt), Revolution Martial Arts (friendly vibe with good technique, according to my buddy), Rey Diogo (old school culture), and the LA Pedigo Submission Fighting affiliate (no web site, only social media). source, 2023 ↗

    positive

Los Angeles Jiu Jitsu Academy (jiujitsu.la) in Culver City is solid. Taught by Kron’s former head instructor Ricardo. Revolution martial arts is decent. The Coop bjj (thecoopbjj.com) is cool too, but similar open mat style with little instruction so it doesn’t sound like what you’re looking for. I think Cobrinha has an affiliate in redondo that I’ve heard good things about. Never heard of blackhouse. source, 2022 ↗
