But that’s got to be an anomaly. Austin must be the fastest growing Bjj community in the states. I was just there - it’s crazy. I live and train in NorCal where it’s very busy, but Austin is the leveled up source, 2025 ↗

Foley and Austin never even did jiu-jitsu much less competed at any level. Weird how Punk and Moxley get shit on for trying other things. source, 2025 ↗

There’s a great jiu jitsu gym every block in Austin, it’s like Starbucks around here, try out a few and see what you like, can’t really go wrong source, 2025 ↗

I don't think many Jiu Jitsu techniques have been picked up for regular use in wrestling - just on occasion is all I mean. I posted the other day, a small clip of Austin DeSanto, hitting a Kimura (for example) after a crazy cartwheel entry into stocks/crucifix. I think the flow of info between Jiu Jutsu and wrestling is quite assymetric. Lot's of wrestling coming into BJJ.. less so the other way around. But more wrestlers are dabbling in BJJ now - which is awesome for the Jiu Jitsu landscape. Actually - it would be a good question to ask Amit Elor - as she is dating Jiu Jitsu champ - Mica Gal source, 2024 ↗

Not necessarily an uncommon hobby, but one that might be relevant for this list: Austin has become a nice hub for some quality Brazilian jiu jitsu. There are a few gyms in the city that are worth looking into Six Blades (north), 10th Planet (south), Paragon (south) are a few worth mentioning source, 2024 ↗
