Gordon is opening a new gym in Austin Texas. His youtube videos also seem to be moving more BJJ instructional content. He has spoken about how much he enjoys teaching BJJ, and seems to have an encyclopedia like knowledge of it. All of this combined points towards him leaning away from competition and into teaching BJJ. After his new school is settled perhaps he will start releasing some new instructionals. Depends what you’re looking for more, vacation to an exotic country or jiu jitsu training. You could go to Austin which has B team (Craig Jones et al) , New Wave (Danaher), and other good schools, Fight Factory I think is where the Tacketts train? Or San Diego which is Andre Galvao’s Atos headquarters, or Costa Mesa near LA for Art of Jiu Jitsu (Mendes bros). If you want mostly a cool vacation plus BJJ I would probably go Thailand or Bali. source, 2025 ↗

UT has a solid club, probably cheaper than joining a regular gym. Private sessions are probably a waste in the beginning. A college club will be good because unlike regular gyms, you get a bunch of new people all starting at the same time which can be taken through a curriculum that makes sense. source, 2024 ↗

Renzo’s isn’t the most expensive, the cheapest membership at Fight Factory was over $200 per month where Renzo’s offers multiple tiers. I know they have a student membership that’s $175 a month. The highest tier membership is the “New Wave” one but I have no idea what it includes as I always thought it was invite only. Regardless, both are great gyms. Assuming you're going to UT Austin, their club is pretty awesome. I think they have classes 6 times a week with excellent instructors. Classes are pretty big and it's super cheap for what you're offered. Renzos, the VOW, and the new Eastside Parlor are all pretty close to campus. Renzo's is the most famous but most expensive and since it's the home of New Wave, you'll get the celeb type training. The instruction is excellent but it's gonna be full of high level people visiting. As a new white belt it really doesn't matter where you train as you're going to suck.
