Buckhead resident here (39M - married). It’s a good question, and one that I see getting asked more frequently in big cities like NYC and Chicago, as well as smaller regional centers with 100-500k populations. I think the challenge of meeting new people has less to do with the city/town itself and more to do with our society’s recent inability to wander into a “third place” and just shoot the shit with a stranger to the point that you may ask him/her if they wanted to hang out on the weekend. I don’t know. All I can say is that it just doesn’t look right. If someone pipes up and says “oh yeah, I know who these guys are and here is the story..” then I’d have to say “ok.” All I can say is that I’ve been involved in BJJ since 2005 - I’ve trained in Brazil and all over the US (Chicago, San Francisco, Austin, NYC) and these guys do not move like any older upper belt I’ve ever seen. Just double checking, so that $500 sign up fee is including either a Gi or No-Gi uniform and 4 weeks free? Let’s be honest the VIP portal is probably not that great and defeats the purpose of VIP if everyone who signs up gets it. The nutrition guide is also probably booty cheeks because not everyone is the same. Unless they’re giving you one tailored to what you want to achieve and actually keeping up with you as you progress. I'm with OP on this. If someone frustrates you enough, it's best to just nip it in the bud. But don't listen to me, I'm just a Bosnian mechanic living in the western suburbs of Chicago, so I can't speak for everyone. I live in a small building, 6 units per building, 4 buildings total, and people get up to all kinds of crazy things even in that small a place. I was a server for 7 years and am a conservative gun enthusiast and jiu jitsu newbie, so I've dealt with a ton of bs from people. My brother is a Chicago cop, too, and he deals with bs.
