My partner moved here from overseas in their 20s and it took them years to make friends. Melbourne is extremely cliquey, and I say this as a lifelong melbournian! People literally just want to hang with their high school friends in their 20s. Maybe a uni circle. Not welcoming of people. The exception in my and my partner's experience is martial arts gyms. If you join a BJJ gym you will have a group of friends in like less than a month. Good luck! source, 2025 ↗

It’s easily the biggest NRL coaching rivalry of the last 20 years – Wayne Bennett up against Craig Bellamy. With ten premierships and counting between them, the one-time master and his former apprentice have coached a collective 1335 NRL games. Once extremely close mates, the duo are now sworn enemies. And no sport loves to hate quite like the greatest game of all. Which makes the NRL’s season-opening round one blockbuster between premiers Melbourne Storm and the challengers South Sydney Rabbitohs even more personal. The Bunnies must head to Melbourne staring down the barrel of the unwante source, 2021 ↗

As someone just beginning their BJJ journey, this is inspiring. I'm struggling to find time to hit the mats right now and had some weird stuff going on with my heart last week even though I'm only 25 so I've been told to take it easy until they catch an incident on the ecg. They're pretty sure I'm all good, but I've found time time off training annoying none-the-less. The takeaway from your story was that its ok to be not training *right now.* I'll get there eventually. Anway, Congratulations Oldslow (hilarious name given the context of the story!) p.s my dad used to make extreme effort source, 2016 ↗
